Managing Scope Creep and Vendor Criterion Points
Operational friction frequently spills over into external vendor and client interfaces when performance standards are left to informal assumptions. Constantly saying “yes” to minor client change requests or accepting chronic vendor shipment delays out of politeness inevitably destroys project timelines and profit margins. Middle management must implement a formal Change Control Workflow where every out-of-scope request requires a written impact statement signed by the client before development or production begins.
For suppliers, managers must establish a written Supplier Scorecard on day one, hardcoding explicit metrics such as a ninety-five percent on-time delivery rate and a ninety-nine percent quality target. Codifying clear penalty triggers—such as formal warnings at two months of failure and contract re-bidding at four months—replaces awkward interpersonal friction with transparent, system-driven accountability.
